Book Review by Barbara J. Gill “Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student” by Pauline Edward
Pauline Edward calls herself a gist* learner in her book “Making Peace with God: The Journey of A Course in Miracles Student.” This book is a must-read for spiritual seekers. It will serve as reassurance and companionship to those trying to get the gist ** of personal peace.
Edward’s book shares her life-long quest for a spiritual truth that made innate sense to her. She began with Catholicism then in early adulthood she explored the metaphysical - delving into studies in transcendental meditation, numerology and astrology, among others. She states that her lack of rigid academic attachments “may have been my saving grace, allowing me to navigate the spiritual buffet line in an open-minded, naive …manner.” While interesting and varied, her studies and experiences often left Edward feeling isolated at the banquet table. But Edward always felt a kinship to Jesus and writes, “I imagined myself alongside him two thousand years ago, walking the dusty roads that took him on his healing and teaching missions, breathing the hot, dry salt air, touching the sick, comforting the desperate. I was in awe of Jesus. Unlike me, he did not seem to have any questions or any doubts. Only answers.”
Edward was well into her adult life when she found A Course in Miracles [Course].
The language of the Course spoke to Edward, although not easily. This author shares her early struggles with the Course. She reached out for the Ken Wapnick learning aids and in an interview stated, “Without them, I would not have been able to pursue this journey.”
“Making Peace with God” is a lively read – full of fresh language, “the words seemed to catch up with each other like a pile-up of cars in a traffic jam,” and a valid read for people of all faiths. Published by Desert Lily Publications, it is available from any online bookstore.
Author Pauline Edward lives in Montreal, Canada where she continues to practice the tenants of the Course and prepares for her next book due in early January of 2011; namely, "Leaving the Desert: The Simplicity of A Course in Miracles." She can be contacted via her website: www.PaulineEdward.com
*Gist: the central idea or essence ** To get the gist: to understand the basics or fundamentals.
